What does the future hold?
In Luke 21, as Jesus stands in the temple during the final week before his crucifixion, he does something extraordinary – he pulls back the curtain on the future. He speaks about the fall of Jerusalem, the turmoil that will mark the world between his first coming and his return, and the day when the Son of Man will come again in power and glory.
For many people, passages like this spark speculation about the end of the world. But Jesus’ purpose is not to give his disciples a timeline to decode. Instead, he prepares them – and us – to live faithfully in the present by understanding where history is going.
Because if Jesus was right about the beginning of the end, we can trust him about the end of the end.
In this message from Luke 21:5–38, we explore how Jesus calls his followers to live in the “last days”: watching our lives, staying awake in prayer, and listening carefully to the voice of Christ. The future Jesus promises changes how we live today.
This sermon is part of our series “The Gospel of Luke: The Final Chapters,” where we walk through Luke 21–24 and see the story move from Temple → Cross → Resurrection → Ascension.
